The Cindy Tournat Surfside Swim Scholarship
This memorial fund was established by Surfside Swim Team in honor of Cynthia “Cindy” Tournat, who coached at Surfside for over ten years, until 2020. Cindy was also a bilingual teacher in LAUSD for many years.
Cindy’s love for the water and the sport of swimming was infectious and she passed that on to all the swimmers who she coached.
This fund provides $1,000 scholarships to seniors graduating from high school, who are active members of Surfside Swim Team and intend to further their education in pursuit of a bachelor’s or other secondary degree or certification. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and no disciplinary infractions. If awarded, the scholarship must be used for educational purposes.
To be considered for this scholarship, swimmers must apply between February 15th and May 15th. Applicants will be considered based on their involvement with the team and completion of all sections in the application. Selection of scholarship recipients is at the discretion of the Surfside Board of Directors. All applicants will be notified in July.
