How do I join?

[email protected] for tryout info and to place your swimmer(s) on the tryout waitlist.
As a part of joining Surfside, you will need to review and sign/confirm that you have read all of our policies and waivers. As part of the registration process, you will be sent links to our Code of Conduct and Billing policies. Separately, you will need to review and e-sign our Liability Waiver and Indemnification Agreement. Your swimmer will not be allowed to start practices with the team until all of those documents have been reviewed and signed.
How much are dues?
Dues are $325 per quarter, with discounts for multi-swimmer families. Your swimmer in the highest squad will pay full dues. Sibling discounts as follows: 25% discount for the first sibling, 33% for the second, 50% for the third and every sibling thereafter.
How much are registration fees?
There is a one-time initial administration fee of $125, an annual membership fee of $200 per account, and a
USA Swimming registration fee of $88. Additonally, there is a bi-annual $70 SCSL Meet fee. The annual fees are collected upon initial registration and on September 1st of each year for the following year. The SCSL fees are charged Jan 1st & Sept 1st.
How can I connect with the coaches?
Coaches are happy to talk to parents after a swim practice. Alternatively, you can set up time by sending an email (see "About Us" or Coaches pages) or sending a note with your swimmer. Please do not go over to the coach during the swimming session.
How often should swimmers train a week?
For your swimmer to see progress, we highly recommend they join Surfside practices 3–5 times each week.
What swim gear do I need?
All swimmers will use goggles, kick boards, and fins for most practices. Please purchase
short swimmer fins rather than boogie board fins, as swimmer’s fins are specifically designed to work the legs. These can be purchased online or at The Swim Guy (see below). All swimmers need a good pair of goggles. New swimmers may need to try several kinds to find the ones that work best for them.
What kind of swim suit should I have?
Everyone should have (and reserve) a team suit for Meets. You may opt to have (non-branded) workout suits for practices. Team suits and workout suits can be purchased from The Swim Guy in Redondo Beach (see below). Workout suits should consist of a competitive-style 1-piece for girls and jammers/speedos for boys.

Who do I notify if I need to miss a long stretch of swimming?
Notify your coach when you are leaving for a week or more, or are missing a meet due to illness. For one or two workouts, it is not necessary to notify the coach.
How do I sign up for Meets?

Do the pools have lockers or showers?
Both RUHS and Begg pools have locker rooms and showers for swimmers; but, we ask that swimmers do not leave things in the locker rooms during practice.
Are parents allowed to coach during workout?
Parents are
not allowed on deck during workout. We cannot stress enough: please do not coach your child at practice or at meets. Teaching is the responsibility of the coaching staff.
Can I take my swimmer out of the water early from practice?
Please send a note with your swimmer to give to the coach before practice begins, so we can ensure they exit on time and are leaving with the proper person.
What is SCSL?
South Central Swim League is the league Surfside participates in. We have Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter seasons, each with four 1-day meets and one 2-day championship meet. To qualify for “Champs,” a swimmer must have swum the event in a dual meet previously.
How do I leave Surfside?
Swimmers leaving Surfside need to inform Membership via email before the start of the quarter at
[email protected] to confirm cancellation.
