Surfside Board Meeting Minutes

May 12, 2022

  1. The Board approved the April 14, 2022 Meeting Minutes.
  1. Coaching:
  1. Lelei’s work schedule has changed in the past few months and her son Robert has been substituting for her one day a week. The Board decided since this has been a consistent, ongoing schedule change, that we need to create a separate contract for Robert and he needs to be up to date on all of his certifications.
  2. The Board will start to look for an assistant head coach who can come aboard to help John and be on deck to manage the coaches at the Redondo pool. This new coach should be a good fit for coaching “C” swimmers, since younger swimmers seem to be Surfside’s “sweet spot.” Hopefully this coach will also be available to work Sunday afternoons so that we can offer another swimming option to the “C” (and maybe “B”) swimmers.
  1. Swim Meets – John told the Board there are no plans for a future Friday night swim meet at this time. There is discussion about having a regional meet in August at RUHS, but Tyler needs more information before they can commit to hosting at RUHS.
  1. JG Prep Class – Still need to schedule lessons learned and planning for 2023 program.
  1. The Board approved two new Board candidates to begin in June (once background checks are completed):
  1. Rich Fernandez – Treasurer.
  2. Margo Trone – Communications & Co-Meet Coordinator. (Paula met with her to discuss division of swim meet duties.)
  1. Team gear – Kayo informed the Board that the Swim Guy is in the process of getting Surfside PJ pants. Hopefully those will be available soon. Currently in stock at the Swim Guy are t-shirts and sweatshirts.
  1. Banking/Financials:
  1. Kayo has been added on to the Wells Fargo account. The new treasurer (Rich) will be added when he officially joins the board.
  2. Sandra will be providing a budget & tax update soon.
  3. Board insurance purchase is still outstanding and will be a responsibility of the new treasurer (Rich).
  1. Membership Status:
  1. Until we have more room for “C” swimmers, we will not be scheduling a tryout. Currently we have 86 kids under 10 on our waiting list. If older kids want to join Surfside, we do have room and we will conduct individual tryouts on an as needed basis.
  2. Kayo completed a marketing flyer for posting at RUHS pool as well as handing out to anyone who is possibly interested in joining Surfside.
