Surfside Board Meeting Minutes

December 6, 2022

Present:             Elisa Nye, Rich Fernandez, Margo Trone, Kayo Libiano, Eileen Brown

 

Absent:            John York

 

 

  1. The Board approved the November 8, 2022 Meeting Minutes.
  1. Recently, one person has left the Board due to medical reasons. The remaining Board Members agreed that we can take on the extra responsibilities and keep the Board at five people. Surfside bylaws call for a minimum of five people on the Board.
  1. The holiday party is coming up on December 9th. We are expecting approximately 65 people. Mexican dinner is being catered. Swimmers have signed up to bring drinks and desserts. All swimmers will receive a new Surfside beanie. There will be a quick parent meeting to vote in the Board for 2023.
  1. Coaching:
  1. All coaches need to be updated on all training certifications. Failure to do so will impact our ability to renew Surfside’s membership in USA Swimming.
  2. The Board approved the purchase of a speaker for the coaches to use on deck at practices and swim meets, as well as at parties and meetings.
  1. The pentathlon dual swim meet with SOBA is coming up on December 11. To date, Surfside has 24 swimmers signed up. We are still in need of more volunteers. The Board will fill in as timers if needed.
  1. Membership:
  1. We are planning to hold a tryout in early 2023.
  2. Kayo is sending an email informing members that they need to renew their USA Swimming membership by the end of the year to be in good standing and be able to participate in swim meets.
  1. Surfside Website:
  1. Margo is working on Surfside’s Facebook and Shutterfly pages as well as creating an Instagram page.
  2. Margo is also setting up a “buy-nothing” type exchange for team gear (eg: team suits, parkas, fins, etc.).
  1. Banking/Financials:
  1. We will announce the newly created Memorial scholarship fund at the Holiday Party/Annual Meeting. Details regarding criteria, how much, application process, etc. will be discussed in the new year.
  2. The purchase of insurance for the Board was approved and will begin January 1, 2023.
