Surfside Board Meeting Minutes

June 8, 2023

Present:             Elisa Nye, Rich Fernandez, Eileen Brown, John York

 

Absent:            Margo Trone, Kayo Libiano

 

  1. The Board approved the May 18, 2023 Meeting Minutes.

 

  1. Coaching
  1. There will not be workouts on the weekends during summer. Surfside has an offer of extended hours until 9pm during the week at RUHS. Elisa is going to look into how many lanes we would need to rent and we will discuss again soon.
  2. The workout schedule will change at MCHS starting week of June 26.
  • Mondays will be at the beach during the summer.
  • Wednesdays 7:15-8:15pm
  • Fridays 6:15-7:15pm
  1. Summer beach workouts will begin on June 26. On Monday evenings the team will work out at the beach at 22nd Street in Hermosa Beach 6:00-7:00pm.
  2. Status on coaches “in good standing”:  Lelei, Melissa and Robert are out of compliance. John will follow up with them. Rich will renew his APT as well.
  3. John will purchase starting equipment for future meets.
  4. John updated the Board on searching for additional coaching staff. He has been in contact with potential replacements for the two coaches who will be leaving this summer. Mary is still out on medical leave. Robert has been filling in for her as the C coach.

 

  1. Swim Meets
  1. Sunday, July 16 – Manhattan Beach Dolphins Invitational @ Mira Costa Pool
  2. Friday, July 21 – Dual meet @ SOBA (Hawthorne)
  3. Sunday, July 23 – Carson Tigersharks Invitational @ Foisia Pool (Carson)
  4. Saturday, Aug. 5 – Bay Area Southeast Qualifiers @ Foisia Pool (Carson)

 

  1. Membership
  1. The issues with the Team Unify website connection to the USA Swimming website have been resolved. However, there are now a couple of new problems in regard to billing.
  2. The Surfside summer beach party will be held on Monday, July 10.  “Save the date” went out in this week’s workout schedule email. The invitation will be sent next week to all members.
  3. A survey about the team and coaches will be emailed this week. The results will be presented at the Summer Beach Party.
  4. We are still researching language to be used when collecting special needs/support information about our swimmers.

 

  1. Banking/Financial
  1. Rich reviewed the May budget v. actual expenses with the Board.

 

  1. Cindy Tournat Memorial Scholarship Fund
  1. The Tournat family provided the funds to establish the scholarship program.
  2. To date, three former swimmers have applied for this year’s scholarship.
  3. Both the Tournat family and the award recipients will be invited to the summer beach party when the awards will be presented.
