Surfside Board Meeting Minutes

December 21, 2023

Present:             Elisa Nye, Kayo Libiano, Eileen Brown

Absent:            Margo Trone, Rich Fernandez, John York

 

  1. The Board approved the November 27, 2023 Meeting Minutes.
  1. Mira Costa High School ongoing pool situation
  1. We are continuing to work with some key contacts in the school district. The main issue continues to be the district’s lack of both a pool supervisor and lifeguard staff. The district is actively seeking job applicants, but it will be another couple of months until staff is hired and trained for us to return to the Costa pool.
  2. Redondo Union continues to be very helpful in finding time in their schedule for some extra Surfside practices.
  1. JG Prep

We have several kids on our list for this coming year’s JG prep class. Mary also knows several more who are interested. Elisa is going to talk with John about the program expectations and a contract for the instructor, as well as dates and times for practices (possibly early Friday evenings and Sunday mornings).

  1. Coaching
  1. Elisa will wait until we have a swim meet planned before ordering the new chairs for the coaches.
  2. Tomorrow is the last workout until after the holidays. The board will be providing hot coco and treats for the swimmers to celebrate.
  1. Membership

Kayo informed the board that all swimmers, coaches, and board members have been registered with USA Swimming for 2024.

A goal was set for Kayo and Rich to provide an update to the board at the March meeting on the analysis of the minimum/maximum number of swimmers Surfside needs to meet budgeting needs and if we need to increase our quarterly membership dues.

  1. Financials

Rich emailed the board an update on the 2023 actuals vs. budget.
