  1. The Board approved the March 14, 2024 Meeting Minutes.
  1. Pool Situation
  1. No new updates on the Mira Costa pool status. We are hopeful that the school district will hire and train staff soon so that we may return to the pool.
  2. Surfside continues to practice at the Redondo Union pool on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings, as well as Sunday mornings.
  3. Practice is at Begg Pool on Wednesday and Friday evenings.
  1. Coaching
  1. Elisa continues to work with a lawyer to change all coaches from independent contractors to Surfside employee status.
  2. John reported that several coaches have questions/concerns about the changes. As soon as the lawyer finalizes the contract, Elisa and John will arrange a meeting to sit down with the coaches and review the changes.
  3. Rich continues to work on the payroll and workers’ comp logistics.
  4. We are looking to implement the new contracts beginning July 1st.
  5. John reported that the coaches are getting frustrated with Team Unify’s system for taking attendance at practices. Elisa and Kayo will investigate their concerns.
  6. John will work with Nicole to find out why our coaches are not listed under Surfside as staff on the USA Swimming website. Currently, they are listed as non-athletes.
  7. Kayo will put Coach Nikki in contact with Nicole to be added as a Surfside coach. As soon as that happens, Nikki will get all her required certifications.
  8. John will remind Lelei and Robert they are not in “good standing” on their certifications and penalty charges will continue to incur each month until this is resolved.
  9. John has spoken with potential coaches to substitute for Surfside workouts when our coaches are unavailable. He has also talked with them about helping with the beach swims in the summer.
  1. Swim Meets
  1. We had the second meet with our new league (SCSL – South Central Swim League). Surfside had a good turnout even though it was a cold and rainy morning.
  2. Our next SCSL meet will be on Saturday, April 27. John has requested extra swim caps that he can hand out to any swimmers who are not already wearing one. Kayo will bring them to the meet. John has also asked that we encourage swimmers to wear Surfside swimsuits and T-shirts to future meets.
  3. Our two last SCSL meets for this season will be on May 25 and the championships on June 29-30.
  4. John continues to work with Kathy at SOBA to schedule some meets in the summer. He will also pursue opportunities for dual meets with the Dolphins and the Bay Club.
  5. Ramya will credit the volunteers for the past few meets soon.
  1. Membership
  1. Rich continues to investigate whether we need to raise our quarterly dues, because of the increases in the new payroll status, pool rental costs, etc.
  2. We will continue, through the summer, with rolling tryouts when availability in the different skill-level groups (C, C+, B, A, and Senior) match up with kids on our waiting list.
  1. Banking/Financials
  1. No update at the meeting. Rich continues to communicate with Elisa regarding any updates to the budget/financials. Unfortunately, while he has been living in Madrid for the year, the time difference doesn’t allow him to join our meetings very often.
  1. 2024 Scholarship Awards
  1. We are currently seeking applicants.
  2. Elisa has added the information to our weekly newsletters.
  3. John will follow up with seniors and encourage them to apply.
