  1. The Board approved the August 8, 2024 Meeting Minutes.
  1. Pool Situation
  1. We will continue to practice at the Redondo Union pool on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings, as well as Sunday mornings.
  2. The last beach workout will be on Friday, September 27.
  3. Beginning October 2, we will be working out at Begg Pool on Wednesdays (8-9pm) and Fridays (6-7pm).
  4. We are still hopeful that someday we can return to the Mira Costa pool, but no progress has been made to hire lifeguards. One of our Manhattan Beach swim parents has offered to follow-up with the school board and the city to see if progress can be made.
  1. Coaching
  1. Status on shift from independent contractor to employee
  • Transitions are largely complete. Beginning this week, direct deposit should go into effect.
  • John and Rich will work with the coaches to get any outstanding documents completed and signed, as well as uploading their hours into the new system.
  1. Updates on staff
  • Mary requested a headset so that her swimmers can hear her better. John is going to check with SOBA to see what they use. We will purchase one headset and if we like it, we will get more for other coaches who want one as well.
  1. John is going to speak with the other coaches to see what we can offer to encourage teen retention on Surfside.
  1. Swim Meets
  1. The first SCSL meet of the season is this Saturday, September 21.
  2. The upcoming SCSL meets are on 11/2, 11/23, and champs on 1/25-26/2025.
  3. No updates regarding potential dual meets with any of the other local teams.
  1. Membership
  1. We currently have 76 candidates on our waiting list. However, many are younger kids, and we do not have any openings in the C/C+ groups.
  2. We will have a tryout in October for swimmers 12 and older or with previous team experience. The date is to be determined.
  3. John is going to discuss with the coaches different scheduling possibilities for our large C/C+ groups. We want to make sure these novice swimmers are getting as much attention and personalization as possible so that they can flourish into competitive swimmers.
  4. Rich and Kayo continue to work on the membership analysis. They will also investigate the issue of not being notified when credit cards have expired, and families continue to swim without payment.
  5. Holiday party – tentative plan is to have it at Begg Pool on Friday, December 6 (5-7pm).
