Board Meeting - November 15, 2024
Surfside Board Meeting Minutes
November 15, 2024
7:30 pm
Present: Elisa Nye, Rich Fernandez, Kayo Libiano, Jered Lindsay, Ramya Sivasubramanian, Eileen Brown, John York
- The Board will approve the meeting minutes of October 17, 2024 at the next meeting.
- Pool Situation
- RUHS pool: The new schedule gives the team extra time (5-6pm C/C+; 6-7pm B; 7-8pm A/Seniors) on Wednesdays through the end of January.
- Coaching
- Status on shift from independent contractor to employee
- John will get all outstanding documents completed and signed by the coaches at tomorrow’s meet.
- Updates on staff
- John is still talking to potential new coaching candidates.
- Mary has purchased a headset to use during her workouts and is happy that all her swimmers can hear her better now.
- Nikki has been helping Mary to coach the C+ group on Tuesdays. Overcrowding has been an issue, so it has been helpful to have a second coach. The new expanded workout times on Wednesday should also help alleviate the overcrowding issue.
- Swim Meets
- The Board discussed any prep/support needs for tomorrow’s intramural meet. Thirty swimmers are signed up.
- SCSL meets:
- The next meet is on November 23. Not as many swimmers are registered, but the low turnout is to be expected since it is the beginning of the Thanksgiving week break.
- Champs are scheduled January 25-26.
- SCSL is considering the following options for the spring/summer season and has asked the various teams to rank the different options in order of preference. Below is Surfside’s ranking:
- Option E: Keep short course format for all meets and add bonus long course meet on any available dates.
- Option A: Keep short course format for all meets.
- Option C: 50/50 meets with short course for champs.
- Option D: 50/50 meets with long course for champs.
- Option B: Switch to long course format for all meets.
- Membership
- Kayo is cleaning up the Surfside membership account and has reached out to members to settle overdue invoices.
- We have 10-12 new members (all B’s, except for two C’s) from the recent tryouts.
- Rich and Kayo continue to work on membership analysis. We hope to know by April if we need to increase membership dues.
- The holiday party will be at Begg Pool on Friday, December 6 (5-7pm).
- To date we have 43 guests (26 swimmers and 17 family members) signed up so far.
- Kayo is going to follow-up with the Swim Guy regarding possible giveaway options.
- John will bring pool toys and lead games.
- Financials
- Rich reviewed for the Board the status of the three Surfside bank accounts (operating, savings, and scholarship fund).
